Adjusting to Change
It’s been a while since my wife and I went out on a date. I was planning on a simple dinner and coffee at Megamall. And I planned to drop by Cyberzone too, to check out techie stuff.
And then the plans changed.
We headed for Mall of Asia where Taste Asia was and Taste Asia 2 will be held.
If you were looking forward to a quiet dinner, the smell of coffee and the sight of glistening gadgets and conveniently located on the way home, and suddenly things change to a dinner with loud music which will take you 15 kilometers further and unsure of the way there, what would you do?
When things don’t turn out as you planned them, are you the type of person who can adjust easily? Or are you the one who would frown and be grouchy and make life miserable for others?
I believe that it’s not what happens to us that matters most but how we respond to those events. Whatever we feel about a situation, it should not be our emotions which should dictate our actions. It should be our decisions.
So how did I fare?
We actually went to Aruba where food was great and where the young 50’s and 60’s retro band The Bloomfields were playing. I ended up enjoying the evening the most since I’m a Beatles fan.
Okay, I had prior knowledge of what I was trading my plans for, not exactly a complete turnaround. But my point is, you get to choose what you do and not blame it all on your “feelings”. Once you get past them, the better life will be.
