Philippine Open source Summit

There are open source solutions to many of the our technology needs, for governments especially. Just a thought, is open source taught in the schools or just mentioned in passing? If we can make our mark in open source support, programming and management, I am sure a lot of opportunities will come our way.

this is a positive step. with the continuous skyrocketing commercial software prices, the ultimate rational step is OSS. back in the Philippines, my office has advocated the use of OSS and it was pretty successfull. now it extended to the regional government offices as well.

Slowly but surely, OSS is crouching on the space of commercial software. I think the tipping point should be the schools. Imagine if high school students today are immersed in these applications, they would have the knowledge that there is more to computers than the big players.

Yap, i agree with you Jun. Schools should be the test ground so that the school administrators would understand the cost effectiveness of open source softwares. By implementing it on their own infrastructure, it helps in spreading the awareness of these products to the students thus gives an assurance to curve software piracy.

Open source should be taken for consideration as an alternative to the proprietary softwares.
